To create and procure elite beef animals sustainably and efficiently by utilizing advanced technology operating at the intersection of the dairy and beef industries.
At Progenco, we believe that elite beef genetics are a requirement when raising the most efficient and sustainable beef animals. The conventional beef industry has been challenged to reliably produce animals that are optimized for final beef production because of its many small-scale herds, wide genetic variability, and competing breeding objectives. As a result, procuring known high-performance terminal beef genetics at scale is very challenging. At Progenco we have addressed this fundamental problem.
Progenco has acquired – and multiplied through its proprietary donor herd – an elite line of terminal Angus genetics optimized for beef production and has revolutionized calf production by using elite beef embryos with dairy cow recipients, while focusing on maximizing fertility.
Partnering with dairy farms that have excess pregnancy capacity ensures the most sustainable and efficient system to create and procure calves from our elite beef genetics. The closed-loop between creating the genetics, maximizing reproductive performance at the dairy, and purchasing the resulting calves is the key to our long-term dairy relationships and to our success.
Progenco is headquartered in Davis, CA, a location with a rich history in agricultural technology enabled by the presence of the University of California at Davis and its world-renowned schools of agriculture and veterinary medicine. Progenco operates a state-of-the-art bovine embryo production facility and maintains a laboratory to develop and extend its industry-leading methods. Progenco also operates a dedicated genetic donor facility in Angora, Nebraska.
